Authentic Outback Flight - Mt Eba

LAKE EYRE, ANNA CREEK PAINTED HILLS AND MT EBA HOMESTEAD FLIGHT FROM WILLIAM CREEK

Take the spectacular flight over Kati Thanda-Lake Eyre, the only way to appreciate the immense size of Australia’s largest lake. Watch in awe as the landscape drastically changes and you view the arid landscape change into perfect white sheets of salt. Incredible contrasting and abstract landscapes are a photographers dream.

From here take the short flight to the Anna Creek Painted Hills, where you will view from the air this incredibly beautiful and fragile formation. You'll land at the Painted Hills to take a guided walk through this ancient land. Being on private property, the Painted Hills are only accessible by air and you’ll be one of the few people fortunate enough to walk these precious lands. Look for fossils, evidence of the inland sea, admire the contrasting colours and characteristics of the rocks as the minerals within oxidise and give us this stunning beauty.

A short flight from the Painted Hills is Mount Eba Station, renowned for being the geographical centre of South Australia; it was once a stopover for fuel and food stores on the Old Stuart Highway. Established in 1874, Mount Eba is an authentic homestead, the original homestead now shearer’s quarters are still standing and operational today. The Station holds both cattle and sheep, close to 30,000 during good times.

The Mount Eba airstrip also has a fascinating past, once being used during the Second World War and by the Trans-Tasman Airlines. Today the Royal Flying Doctors Service uses Mount Eba Homestead for Bush Clinics. Land here for either morning or afternoon tea and have a chat with station owners, Margie and Pete. Hear about what it is like living on part of the Woomera Prohibited Area and spot the rocket lodged in the ground. Take a walk around the property, visit the shearing shed, touch and feel the raw product of wool fresh off the board. Visit an old cemetery and hear about past occupants and enjoy the experience of an isolated outback working station.

The flight includes full commentary via headsets worn by all guests, superb window views, and morning tea.
